The first portion is Sedgwick's account of the early life and progress of her daughter "Lizzie", later Elizabeth Sedgwick Child (ff. 2r-42r). The latter portion is the account of the early life and progress of the children of Elizabeth Sedgwick Child and Francis James Child, including Henrietta Ellery, Helen Marie, Susan Sedgwick and Francis Sedgwick; chiefly written by Elizabeth Child.

The materials in this bound volume were generated due to a manuscript called the "Harris manuscript." The Harris manuscript was written down by the sisters Amelia Harris (1815-1891) and Jane Harris (1823-1897).
